Style out the winter blues with Pantone’s Classic Blue
As the weather gets cooler, it’s the perfect time to create your warm winter sanctuary.
If you haven’t already considered it in the styling of your home, Pantone’s 2020 colour, inspired by trends in homes, travel, culture and fashion, was the Classic Blue.
This enduring blue hue can be the perfect pop of colour or statement for your winter style as a dependable and stable foundation for the home. It instills calm, confidence, and connection – a beautiful sentiment if you’ve already spent a great deal of time at home due to COVID-19, and will be spending more time at home during the cooler months.
So, how do you incorporate this colour into your own home, and how do you make it work during the cooler months? Whether you are amidst a renovation, have bought a new home or just giving your space a refresh, we have four helpful tips for you!
Adding a pop of blue through accessories
Adding pops of Classic Blue can be achieved through fabric, furniture, and décor items. Classic Blue won’t be on trend forever, so these gentle pops are a nice, interchangeable way to include the colour, without a huge commitment.
This colour can be found in textured rugs to add warmth in colour and underfoot, or vases, to bring life and energy into the home with winter flowers or foliage.
Adding a throw or cushion to lounges is also a great way to easily give a room a seasonal change; using a heavier, softer fabric instead of your summer linens or silks, will add to your cosiness and comfort.
Statement designs through winter and beyond
Classic Blue statements can pull your colour scheme together, and bold statements, like painting a whole wall, can create a confident, sophisticated and luxurious vibe. A Classic Blue painted vanity can add interest to an otherwise neutral bathroom for that stunning focal point.
If you’re worried about over-using blue, tie your pops of colour with another bold colour such as yellow. Classic Blue can also work with trending winter colours like terracotta and greys.
Experimenting with lighting
Lighting is extremely important when creating the atmosphere of the room, and especially during winter to take away the sometimes gloominess that comes with the shorter days. Blue can be incorporated into lampshades to further create a calming effect, but we also recommend using lights elsewhere to brighten the home, indoors and out, including porch or garden lights.
Other colours to consider for winter
If Classic Blue is not your thing, don’t worry. You can achieve beautiful winter theming with a range of other colours. An Australiana theme, for example, featuring browns, rusts and greens can achieve a warm vibe, especially if this is complemented by a crackling fire in your living room.
