A smart and sophisticated inner-city apartment
Suburb: Woolloomooloo - Sydney, NSW
Design look and feel: The owners of this home have been living in this apartment for over two decades. Given that the husband, a retired architect which originally designed and built it many years ago, the building has a special place in their heart. Over time this home started to look a little tired and this is where we came in. The flip side of the couple’s vast experience in the building industry was that they felt overwhelmed by the sheer never-ending number of choices for the design of their new home. We built a very good relationship with them and through many meetings and site visits, the essence of their personal preferences crystalized. We came up with a strong concept, which incorporated contemporary elements in a sophisticated and timeless design. The overall look we proposed was both understated, whilst at the same time creating interest and wow-moments as you enter and move through the home.
Renovation details: Over the duration of 8 weeks, our team of professionals transformed our clients Kitchen, Powder Room, Main Bathroom and Ensuite
Duration: 8 weeks
Date completed: November 2019
Kitchen fixtures and finishes:
Key features in the kitchen include the gorgeous Sensa Taj Mahal stone by Cosentino, which was used for the benchtop and splashback in the kitchen, as well as the wetrooms. As each slab of this beautiful stone is unique, our design team was on site with the stonemason to supervise the exact cut of each single segment. The variations of the natural stone complement the sophisticated Bianca Perla marble floor tiles in honed finish, which were laid in a diamond pattern throughout the living areas and which were also used on the floors and selected walls in the wetrooms of the home. The stone is offset by the cabinetry in Polytec Cinder matt finish and softened by upper cabinetry elements in Polytec Amaro in matt finish. The cabinetry was kept contemporary and sleek, and included practical elements such as pull out bins. The kitchen bench was designed to incorporate a small, round island with feature American Walnut timber battens in a natural finish, which created visual interest and cleverly made use of the available space.
Powder room fixtures and finishes:
From the apron style waterfall edge of the 20mm Sensa Taj Mahal stone benchtop, to the Babylon Green Fan feature tiles and the matt black/silver custom lighting, the powder room is a true showstopper! The Babylon Green Fan tiles were selected to pay homage to the heritage of the original building. Both the colour and the curved shape were used in the original design of this iconic building. Storage is cleverly tucked away in cabinetry in Notaio Walnut in woodmatt finish. Pin leaver Industrie tapware complements the look. LED lighting was installed to further enhance the effect of the finishes in this room.
Main Bathroom and Ensuite fixtures and finishes:
To create a sense of balance, we continued the same design concept throughout the wetrooms. Apron-style benchtops in Sensa Taj Mahal create a sense of understated luxury. We installed shaving cabinets in Notaio Walnut woodmatt finish, to match the vanity cabinetry, which incorporated clever storage solutions. In the main bathroom, the Industrie corner bath and Industrie tapware come to life against the beautiful large scale 600x600 Bianca Perla marble tiles in honed finish which were installed to create balance against the Babylon Green Fan feature tiles. What a fabulous place to relax at the end of a long day! The understated beauty of the gorgeous Bianca Perla marble tiles really comes to life in the corner shower with frameless shower screen in the ensuite, where we installed a full-length ledge as a further feature.
